RESOLUTION NO. 81-16
RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF CITY OF
LOS ANGELES' RIGHTS IN THE MONO LAKE BASIN
WHEREAS, the Board of Directors of Yorba Linda County Water District support
the need to establish reliable supplies of water and energy for the
Southern California area, and
WHEREAS, Southern California and Orange County will suffer serious cutbacks
in water supplies as a result of the Arizona decision limiting supplies
from the Colorado River and,
WHEREAS, cost of electric power to pump water to Southern California is on the
increase and it is in the interest of Southern California and Orange
County residents to keep the costs of power to pump water down, and
WHEREAS, it is in the interests of Orange County that the City of Los Angeles'
rights in the Mono Lake Basin need to be established on the sound
economical and environmental basis, and
WHEREAS, H. R. 4403 assists in establishing those rights in that it provides for
easements over federal lands for access to the Basin; confirms present
water and hydro-electric rights; authorizes continued studies of the
effects of continued operations in the Mono Basin; resolves any right
of way matters that have been pending for nearly 40 years, resolution
of which would protect an investment of over $100 million dollars by
the City of Los Angeles in its water and power facilities in the Mono
Lake Basin,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Yorba Linda Water District hereby
supports H. R. 4403 in its present form and all similar legislation of
like import which would confirm Los Angeles' rights for existing water
facilities in the Mono Lake Basin.
