HomeMy WebLinkAbout1981-09-24 - Resolution No. 81-160 0 RESOLUTION NO. 81-16 RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF CITY OF LOS ANGELES' RIGHTS IN THE MONO LAKE BASIN WHEREAS, the Board of Directors of Yorba Linda County Water District support the need to establish reliable supplies of water and energy for the Southern California area, and WHEREAS, Southern California and Orange County will suffer serious cutbacks in water supplies as a result of the Arizona decision limiting supplies from the Colorado River and, WHEREAS, cost of electric power to pump water to Southern California is on the increase and it is in the interest of Southern California and Orange County residents to keep the costs of power to pump water down, and WHEREAS, it is in the interests of Orange County that the City of Los Angeles' rights in the Mono Lake Basin need to be established on the sound economical and environmental basis, and WHEREAS, H. R. 4403 assists in establishing those rights in that it provides for easements over federal lands for access to the Basin; confirms present water and hydro-electric rights; authorizes continued studies of the effects of continued operations in the Mono Basin; resolves any right of way matters that have been pending for nearly 40 years, resolution of which would protect an investment of over $100 million dollars by the City of Los Angeles in its water and power facilities in the Mono Lake Basin, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Yorba Linda Water District hereby supports H. R. 4403 in its present form and all similar legislation of like import which would confirm Los Angeles' rights for existing water facilities in the Mono Lake Basin.
