PERSONNEL-RISK MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETING SCP 2 2
September 12, 2005
A meeting of the Personnel-Risk Management Committee was called to order by Committee
Chair Ric Collett at 4:00 p.m. The meeting was held at the District Headquarters, 4622 Plumosa
Drive, Yorba Linda.
DIRECTORS PRESENT:
Director Ric Collett, Chair
Director William R. Mills Jr.
STAFF PRESENT:
Ken Vecchiarelli, Asst. General Mgr.
ACTION ITEMS:
1. The committee considered the ACWA/JPIA Liability Insurance Deposit Premium for the
period of October 1, 2005 - September 30, 2006. The Committee asked several questions,
discussed the premium changes and reviewed previous years for comparison. This matter
will be considered by the Board of Directors at their regular Meeting on September 22,
2005.
2. The committee considered a claim filed by the law firm of Davis, Punelli, Keathley, LLP on
behalf of Wen Jong Wu and concurred with staffs recommendation that the claim be
rejected and referred to ACWA/JPIA. This matter will also be considered by the Board of
Directors on September 22, 2005.
STANDING ITEMS:
3. Status report on recruitments. Mr. Vecchiarelli reported on the status of open recruitments
and recruitments pending with the help of hired consultants. The Committee briefly
discussed timing issues and recruitment priorities.
4. Status report on risk management claims. Mr. Vecchiarelli reported on a new claim caused
by a sewer backup following a water pipeline break in Ohio Street.
5. ACWA/JPIA Risk Assessment and Training. The Committee discussed points addressed
in a letter from ACWA Joint Powers Insurance Authority regarding follow up training for
District employees and other recommendations to minimize risks.
INFORMATION ITEMS:
6. ACWA/JPIA Property additional insurance coverage. Staff reported on updating the list of
District facilities insured under ACWA/JPIA to include new improvement projects.
7. Industrial Medical Care providers. Staff is reviewing alternative medical care providers
locally and may change providers. Director Collett shared information on options for other
companies to perform required testing, such as DOT mandated random testing.
8. Health Benefit Fair scheduled for Wednesday, October 19. If available, staff will plan to
have the District medical provider offer flu shots at the event.
